16 April 2007 : Pomegranates by post

Hi all! Thought it was about time I stopped tinkering with the website and took the blogging reigns from Kieran for the moment!

My copy of the EP arrived in the post at the end of last week – exciting stuff! I’ve been anxious to hear the mastered EP. Now the song writing, recording sessions, mixing, mastering and artwork have all come together into the jewel case I have here before me.

Kieran’s put so much work into getting this release out and he’s done a great job of it too! Everyone who’s been involved and everything that’s been done towards this EP has been because of him, his songs and his hard work.

Obviously the EP was in very capable hands with David Rogers, the mastering engineer, as the tracks have really been brought together into a nicely cohesive work. David, you’ve done us proud with the mastering – thanks!

In all honesty, I was worried about my vocals on this. To illustrate, think about how much you enjoy listening to your own voice on an answerphone message. But I’m really happy with it. We hope you like it too!

Right, now for planning some live outings.

    Hi Jon,

    Congratulations on the release – I too was always insecure about my vocals, on completing a recording. Fear not, you have nothing to worry about. The vocals are not only original and fresh but also you have conveyed true emotion and sincerety in them. I can’t imagine a ‘polished pop’ singer being well matched to the originality and ‘vibe’ of Cake For Lily. Rest easy!

    fine instrumentation from Mr Binnie, nice to hear ‘one step from summer’ as a finished article at last, stand out track for me is ‘tiny tremors’, nice tune and evocative lyrics. well done & good luck !
